Basketball: Middle School Boys
Eagle Sports's Middle School Boys' Basketball season runs from October to February with possible pre-season and post season tournaments.
Head Coach Mike Welsh
Mr. Michael Welsh started playing competitive basketball in the 5th grade and has never stopped playing the game he loves. While attending Shamrock High School, Coach Mike competed in track and basketball. Upon graduating from high School, he attended University of Georgia where he competed at the collegiate level in track. There is where he met his wife, the former Susie Googe. Susie was a founding member of the University of Georgia Women's Track team and the first Co-Captain. He graduated from UGA in 1981 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and achieved his Masters of Accountancy in 1986.
They signed up their first son, Daniel, for a recreational soccer program when he was 5 years old only to find out that Mike had to coach for them to form the team. When the family moved to South Georgia, Mike and Susie formed the soccer league, Altamaha Youth Soccer Association, in Hazlehurst, GA. for Daniel to have a place to play. The league grew from 60 kids on 8 teams to over 250 children on 15 teams. During this time, Mike obtained a series of soccer coaching licenses. Another move put the family in the CSRA and opened the door for Coach Mike and Susie to take over as track coaches at Westminster Schools of Augusta. They coached the track team for six years. Susie still coaches on a consulting basis and recently had a student win the GHSA state meet and was offered a full scholarship to several Division I schools. Both of their older children, Alex and Daniel received athletic scholarships upon graduating from high school. The Welsh's and Hatcher's joined forces in 2011 to create Eagles soccer for their middle school girls. Mike coached the team for the first season, which was a resounding success. Over 20 girls came out for the experience and many want to continue at a higher level. Mr. Welsh is returning to his first love, basketball, now that his second son has taken up the mantle and both are looking forward to a successful season. Currently, Coach Mike is President of MWelchco, LLC, 1998- present.Assistant Coach- Coach Kollin Stone
